Kevin begins 2013 with a series of performances in New York featuring his Prana and New Day Trios.

On February 5th, Palmetto Records releases ‘Dawning’ by Saffron, a collaborative project featuring Kevin alongside Indian Sitar master Shujaat Khan, Katayoun Goudarzi, Abhiman Kaushal, and Tim Ries.

In mid-February, Kevin will venture to Europe with Brad Mehldau for a tour in support of Modern Music and in March, his New Day Trio will tour throughout Italy. Check the schedule for the full list of dates.

MODERN MUSIC

A collaboration between Kevin Hays, Brad Mehldau, and composer/arranger Patrick Zimmerli, Modern Music (Nonesuch) features pieces written by each of the three musicians as well as works by Steve Reich, Ornette Coleman, and Philip Glass with arrangements by Zimmerli.

VARIATIONS

Variations (Pirouet) is Kevin’s latest release and features the pianist in a solo context. Recorded in December 2010, Variations presents a suite of improvisations co-produced by Patrick Zimmerli, who helped provide “structural” support throughout the project.

Kevin about the project:
My hope is that the listener will hear and feel this developing thread throughout the recording. Also because of the structure of the recording I think listeners will get the most out of the experience if they listen all the way through the CD in one (or more) sitting to get the full effect.
