Kevin commences a busy March 2014 at the Jazz Gallery with a duo performance alongside 2013 Thelonious Monk Competition winner, saxophonist Melissa Aldana.

The New Day Trio continue their ’2nd Wednesdays’ 55 Bar residency on March 12th, and will also perform at Connecticut’s Firehouse 12 later in the month.

Kevin will also be performing with Donny McCaslin, Al Foster, Seamus Blake and Chris Cheek’s ‘Reeds Ramble’, and Eddie Henderson this March. Check the schedule for the full list of dates.

A collaboration between Kevin Hays, Brad Mehldau, and composer/arranger Patrick Zimmerli, Modern Music (Nonesuch) features pieces written by each of the three musicians as well as works by Steve Reich, Ornette Coleman, and Philip Glass with arrangements by Zimmerli.

Variations (Pirouet) is Kevin’s latest release and features the pianist in a solo context. Recorded in December 2010, Variations presents a suite of improvisations co-produced by Patrick Zimmerli, who helped provide “structural” support throughout the project.

Kevin about the project:
My hope is that the listener will hear and feel this developing thread throughout the recording. Also because of the structure of the recording I think listeners will get the most out of the experience if they listen all the way through the CD in one (or more) sitting to get the full effect.
